Inspiration for the work
“I was out exploring my new surroundings in Donghae on the east coast of Gangwon-do province. I found myself nearing the harbour at Mukho, almost every shop along the way was dedicated to selling (and elaborately displaying), scores and scores of dried fish.
The fish were all shapes and sizes and covered every inch of free space, strung up outside or stacked up on tables inside and out. They looked like Ridley Scott creations - impaled on wooden frames and so far removed from their natural environments.
I found them compelling and began recording what I saw with photos (below) and sketches....once home, I began to explore the notion of how these fish might look back in the ocean."
